BEHIND THE CUP
About
High in the Mixteca region of Oaxaca, small groups of neighboring families farm the hills around the trading post of Miramar de Yucuhiti. We were introduced to one of these groups through the Good Coffee Program’s outreach in Oaxaca, and we’ve been glad to know them ever since. The group is led by Cecilio Pérez Vásquez, a charismatic and dependable producer whose neighbors include some of the region’s most dedicated specialty growers.
Together they’ve taken a cooperative approach, sharing knowledge and representing producers beyond their own farms, with a goal of reaching 10 tons of parchment coffee each year. Specialty coffee is how this community is choosing to shape its own economic future, and every lot they send reflects that commitment.
The whole group is dialed in on quality, and Hipólito still stands out in that company. So we set his lot aside to give it a bag of its own. Juicy orange leads the way, apricot softens things into something round and sweet, and tamarind brings a tangy, brown sugar depth that has us reaching for another sip.
